An ancient creature who’s name directly translates as “heavenly dog” was said to have been created by the Gods to be the guardian of the gates. It was told that during the year 643 a rash of demons from the underworld found a portal in the deep caves of Mt Fuji. For years moving forward the demons terrorized any and all who past through the upper paths of the mountain leaving bloodshed in their path.

Many sought the help of warriors to which none could help or defeat the demons ending in their own demise. It was at this time when the people summoned the Tian Gou 天狗 to help protect and rid the demons. It was said that the people prayed day and night in attempts to lure the Tian Gou from the sky.
